Brake repairs in Castle Hill

We inspect the whole brake system first, so the repair matches the problem. The brake work we do includes:

  • Worn brake pads or brake linings
  • Worn, scored, or warped rotors
  • Sticking or seized brake calipers
  • Leaking or damaged brake hoses and lines
  • Old or contaminated brake fluid

We use quality parts, including DBA & Brembo brake components. Some jobs only need new pads. Others need rotors, a caliper, or a hose as well.

Signs your brakes need attention

Brake problems usually give a warning before they become serious. These are the signs worth acting on:

  • A high-pitched squeal when you brake
  • A grinding or scraping noise
  • A soft, spongy, or sinking brake pedal
  • The car pulling to one side when you brake
  • Vibration or pulsing through the pedal or steering wheel
  • The car taking longer to stop than it used to
  • A brake warning light on the dashboard
  • A burning smell after driving

Any of these is a good reason to book a check. Worn pads are much cheaper to replace before they damage the rotors.

What your brake symptoms point to

  • A squeal at low speed often points to pads that are close to the end of their life.
  • A grinding noise usually means the pads are worn through and metal is wearing on the rotor.
  • Vibration through the pedal or steering wheel often points to uneven or warped rotors.
  • A car that pulls to one side often points to a sticking caliper or uneven pad wear.
  • A soft or sinking pedal can point to air, moisture, or a leak in the brake fluid system.

If the pedal sinks to the floor or the car doesn’t stop properly, don’t drive it. Call us.

Brake service and pad replacement in Castle Hill

Pads and rotors wear down with use, and how fast depends on your car and how you drive. A brake service is more than swapping pads. Here is what a brake service and pad replacement involves at our Castle Hill workshop:

  1. The pads, rotors, calipers, and brake hoses are inspected, and the pad thickness is measured.
  2. The rotors are checked for wear, scoring, and warping.
  3. The brake fluid is checked.
  4. We explain what we found and what your car needs, so you can decide before any work starts.
  5. The worn parts are replaced or repaired, then the brakes are tested before the car goes back to you.

A brake service and pad replacement usually takes just a few hours. If you need a car while we work, ask about our loan cars. Bookings are essential & costs apply.

Brake check before a long drive

Long drives, holiday traffic, and a car full of luggage all put extra load on the brakes. A check before you go lets you find worn pads or tired fluid on your own schedule, not halfway to your destination.

A pre-trip brake check looks at pad thickness, rotor condition, brake fluid, and the hoses. It also catches small problems, like a squeal or a slight pull, before they get worse.

Heading away this summer? Ask us to check your car air conditioning at the same visit. See our car air conditioning service.

Quick brake checks you can do at home

These take a few minutes and give you something useful to tell us when you call:

  • Listen for squealing or grinding when you brake.
  • Notice whether the pedal feels softer or sinks lower than usual.
  • Notice whether the car pulls to one side when you brake.
  • Check whether a brake warning light is on.
  • Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir, if your owner’s handbook shows where it is. A low level can point to worn pads or a leak, so book a check rather than topping it up.

Brakes are a safety system, so please leave the repair to a workshop. If something doesn’t feel right after these checks, call us.

Brake repair FAQs

How do I know if my brakes need replacing?

Common signs include squealing or grinding when you brake, a soft or sinking pedal, the car pulling to one side, vibration through the pedal or steering wheel, a longer stopping distance, or a brake warning light. If you notice any of these, book a check as soon as you can.

How long do brake pads last?

There’s no fixed number. It depends on the car, the type of pads, and how you drive. Stop-start traffic, hills, and heavy loads wear pads faster. The only way to know how much life is left is to have them measured.

Is it safe to drive with squealing or grinding brakes?

Squealing is often an early warning that the pads are getting low, so book a check soon. Grinding usually means the pads are worn through and metal is wearing against the rotor, which can damage the rotor and reduce stopping power. If the pedal sinks to the floor or the car doesn’t stop properly, don’t drive it.

Do I need new pads and rotors at the same time?

Not always. Pads wear faster than rotors. Rotors are replaced when they are worn below their minimum thickness, scored, or warped. We measure both and tell you what your car needs.

Where can I get my brakes checked near me?

Tassell Automotive checks and repairs brakes at our workshop at Unit 1/2 Gladstone Road, Castle Hill. We also look after drivers from nearby suburbs such as Baulkham Hills, Rouse Hill, Kellyville, Glenhaven, and Dural. Call (02) 9634 2653 to book.

How much do brake repairs cost?

The price depends on your car, which parts need work, and how worn they are. Call (02) 9634 2653 with the make, model, and year of your car and we can talk you through what to expect. If the brakes need more than pads, we quote after the inspection.
