Pink slips and eSafety checks in Castle Hill
A pink slip is a safety inspection of your car. In NSW it is officially called a safety check or eSafety check, and only an Authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS) station can do one. Tassell Automotive does them at our workshop at Unit 1/2 Gladstone Road, Castle Hill.
Our Authorised Inspection Station Number: S05235
A pink slip checks the main safety items on your car, including:
- Brakes
- Tyres and wheels
- Steering and suspension
- Lights and indicators
- Windscreen and wipers
- Seatbelts
- The condition of the body
When the inspection is done, the result is sent to Transport for NSW electronically. If your car passes, you can renew your registration online.
Does your car need a pink slip?
- Most cars more than 5 years old need a pink slip every year before the registration can be renewed.
- The 5 years is counted from the month and year on the compliance plate.
- Your registration renewal notice will say whether you need one.
- A NSW pink slip is valid for 6 months, so renew your registration within that time.
Not sure whether your car needs one? Call us with the make, model, and year and we can tell you.
What happens during a pink slip
Here is how a pink slip works at our Castle Hill workshop:
- You book in and bring the car to our workshop.
- We inspect the safety items on the car.
- If it passes, the result is sent to Transport for NSW electronically, and you can renew your registration online.
- If it fails, we tell you what needs fixing and quote the repairs before any work starts.
- Once the repairs are done, we re-check the car.
A pink slip usually takes approximately 20-30min to complete. Bookings are essential, so we can action while you wait. Take a seat in our air conditioned waiting room if you like.

Common reasons a car fails a pink slip
These are the items that most often need attention:
- Worn tyres or damaged wheels
- Worn brake pads or rotors
- A cracked or chipped windscreen, or worn wiper blades
- Blown bulbs or faulty indicators
- Worn or damaged steering and suspension parts
- Damaged or faulty seatbelts
- Exhaust leaks or excessive smoke
- Rust or damage to the body
Checking these before you book can save you a second visit. Brakes are one of the most common causes of a fail. See our brake repairs.
If your car fails its pink slip
A fail means something needs fixing before you can renew your registration. We tell you what failed and what it will take to fix, and you decide what to do next.
If the repairs are done and the car is re-checked at the same inspection station within 14 days, you don’t pay another inspection fee. We can do the repairs and the re-check at our Castle Hill workshop.
Quick checks before your pink slip
These take a few minutes and can save you a second visit:
- Check all the lights and indicators, including the brake lights and number plate lights.
- Look at the tyres for low tread, cracks, or bulges.
- Check the windscreen for cracks and the wipers for tearing.
- Try the horn and the seatbelts.
- Listen for new noises from the brakes or suspension.
If you find a problem, call us before you book the inspection. We can fix it first.
