Logbook servicing in Castle Hill

A logbook service is a scheduled service that follows the manufacturer’s service schedule for your car. The schedule lists what to check or replace at each interval, based on your car’s age and kilometres.

Depending on your car and the service that is due, a logbook service usually includes:

  • Engine oil and oil filter
  • Air, cabin, and fuel filters, when scheduled
  • Brake fluid and coolant, when scheduled
  • Spark plugs, when scheduled
  • Checks of the brakes, tyres, lights, belts, and hoses

We use quality parts and fluids from brands including Penrite Oil, Ryco Filters, and DBA Brakes.

Does servicing at an independent workshop affect your new car warranty?

Not if the service follows the manufacturer’s schedule. In Australia, you don’t have to service your car at a dealer to keep the manufacturer’s warranty. The service needs to follow the schedule, be done by a qualified mechanic, and use quality parts.

Keep your service records. We stamp your service book and give you an itemised invoice.

Some extended warranties and capped-price service plans have their own conditions, so check your paperwork. Skipping a scheduled service can put your warranty at risk.

Not sure where your car stands? Call us with the make, model, and year and we will check your schedule.

What happens during a logbook service

Here is how a logbook service works at our Castle Hill workshop:

  • You book in and tell us the make, model, year, and kilometres of your car.
  • We check the manufacturer’s schedule for the service that is due.
  • We do the scheduled work and the safety checks, using quality parts that meet the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • If we find something that needs attention outside the schedule, we explain what it is and what your options are before any work starts.
  • We stamp your service book and give you an itemised invoice.

A minor service may only take a few hours to complete, whilst a major service could take several hours. A loan car is available (costs apply) & needs to be booked prior.

Not sure which service your car needs? We can point you in the right direction.

When is your logbook service due?

Most manufacturers set the service interval in months and kilometres, whichever comes first. The schedule is in your logbook or owner’s handbook.

Keeping to it gives your car a complete service history, which helps when you sell or trade it in. If you are unsure which service is next, call us with the make, model, and year of your car. See how often your car should be serviced.

Logbook service or general car service?

A logbook service follows the manufacturer’s schedule for your car. A general car service covers the essentials, like an oil change and safety checks, but isn’t matched to a schedule.

If your car is under warranty, a logbook service is the one to book. For an older car, either can suit, and we’ll tell you what we’d recommend.

What to bring to your logbook service

Having these with you makes the visit quicker:

  • Your logbook or service book, and the owner’s handbook if you have it
  • All your keys, including the locking wheel nut key
  • Any warranty or service plan paperwork
  • A note of anything you have noticed, like noises or warning lights

Brake repair FAQs

How do I know if my brakes need replacing?

Common signs include squealing or grinding when you brake, a soft or sinking pedal, the car pulling to one side, vibration through the pedal or steering wheel, a longer stopping distance, or a brake warning light. If you notice any of these, book a check as soon as you can.

How long do brake pads last?

There’s no fixed number. It depends on the car, the type of pads, and how you drive. Stop-start traffic, hills, and heavy loads wear pads faster. The only way to know how much life is left is to have them measured.

Is it safe to drive with squealing or grinding brakes?

Squealing is often an early warning that the pads are getting low, so book a check soon. Grinding usually means the pads are worn through and metal is wearing against the rotor, which can damage the rotor and reduce stopping power. If the pedal sinks to the floor or the car doesn’t stop properly, don’t drive it.

Do I need new pads and rotors at the same time?

Not always. Pads wear faster than rotors. Rotors are replaced when they are worn below their minimum thickness, scored, or warped. We measure both and tell you what your car needs.

Where can I get my brakes checked near me?

Tassell Automotive checks and repairs brakes at our workshop at Unit 1/2 Gladstone Road, Castle Hill. We also look after drivers from nearby suburbs such as Baulkham Hills, Rouse Hill, Kellyville, Glenhaven, and Dural. Call (02) 9634 2653 to book.

How much do brake repairs cost?

The price depends on your car, which parts need work, and how worn they are. Call (02) 9634 2653 with the make, model, and year of your car and we can talk you through what to expect. If the brakes need more than pads, we quote after the inspection.
